A tragic incident unfolded in west Plaistow, New Hampshire, where a Massachusetts man was fatally struck by an Amtrak train. The victim, 33-year-old Cameron Wholley from Haverhill, Massachusetts, was walking along the railroad tracks near Plaistow Road when the Amtrak Downeaster train approached him from behind.
Authorities were alerted around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, law enforcement and emergency personnel discovered Wholley deceased next to the tracks. An Amtrak representative stated that the individual was trespassing on railroad property at the time of the collision.
The train, traveling from Portland, Maine, to Boston, Massachusetts, had no reported injuries among its passengers or crew. Amtrak is cooperating with local authorities in their investigation and emphasized their proactive measures to prevent trespassing fatalities on their property.
