The crossing was not equipped with standard flashing lights. Instead, warnings consisted of flares and train personnel holding lanterns to indicate the crossing was closed. Despite these visual cues, Moore reportedly proceeded across the tracks as an eastbound train approached.
Authorities stated that Moore appeared to attempt to avoid the train at the last moment but was struck. The impact pushed his car approximately 50 feet before the train stopped. The vehicle caught fire, and Moore was trapped inside, pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
