A woman from Minnesota has died following a shark attack on the U.S. Virgin Island of St. Croix. The 56-year-old tourist was attacked at Dorcsh Beach on Thursday afternoon. Emergency services were dispatched after multiple 911 calls reported the incident, which happened about 90 minutes before sunset.
First responders confirmed the woman sustained a severe arm injury during the encounter and later succumbed to her wounds. Authorities stated that the investigation into the attack is ongoing, and it remains unclear if the shark has been located or what prompted the incident. Governor Albert Bryan Jr. and Lieutenant Governor Tregenza A. Roach expressed their condolences to the victim's family.
This incident follows a reported shark sighting off the coast of California approximately two weeks prior, where a woman vanished and witnesses claimed to have seen a shark with a human body. However, authorities found insufficient evidence to confirm a shark attack in that case.
