The driver, a man in his 30s, refused to stop, leading deputies on a brief chase through Victorville before merging onto the I-15 Freeway. The pursuit concluded around 2:00 a.m. in Pomona. The fleeing driver exited the freeway and lost control, colliding with a palm tree near the intersection of Towne and Bonita Avenues. The impact left the blue Nissan Sentra severely damaged, and the sole occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
