An 83-year-old man lost his life following a devastating two-vehicle collision on July 16th in Perry County, Ohio. The incident took place around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Ohio 204 and Ohio 668 in Hopewell Township.
Preliminary investigations by the Ohio State Highway Patrol indicate that Thomas Shafer, a resident of Glenford, was traveling northeast on Ohio 204. His pickup truck was struck by a van that entered the intersection from Ohio 668, failing to yield the right-of-way.
The driver of the van, identified as 30-year-old Brandon Salyers of Gahanna, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Grant Medical Center. A juvenile passenger in Shafer's pickup suffered minor injuries and was transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Shafer was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather information about the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
