Fleeing Driver Kills Man in Orange County Crash

A fatal two-vehicle crash occurred Tuesday evening at approximately 7:23 p.m. at the intersection of Clarcona and Gilliam roads in Orange County, Florida. The collision resulted in the death of a 37-year-old Orlando man, who was pronounced dead at AdventHealth Apopka Hospital.
Authorities reported that Jason Salustro, 46, of Orlando, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Clarcona Road. He attempted to turn left onto Gilliam Road, driving into the path of a northbound Honda Civic. The Tahoe struck the Civic's front end. Salustro, who was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries, fled the scene on foot.
Witnesses alerted law enforcement, who, along with Orange County sheriff's deputies, located Salustro about a mile from the crash site. He was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death. The victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, has not been identified pending notification of next of kin. The crash temporarily closed Clarcona Road near Gilliam Road.
