Elderly Man Dies in Fierce New Cassel House Fire

A devastating house fire in New Cassel on Friday morning resulted in the death of a 74-year-old man. The fire, located on Arlington Street, had the home fully engulfed in flames by the time officers arrived at approximately 7:48 a.m.

Firefighters, with assistance from neighboring departments, worked diligently and brought the blaze under control within 45 minutes. Despite a valiant effort by fire officials and police officers to rescue the trapped occupant before firefighters arrived, their attempt was unsuccessful. The victim was discovered inside the residence and pronounced dead at the scene.

No other individuals or firefighters sustained injuries. The home suffered significant damage, and its structural integrity will be assessed by the Town of North Hempstead Building Department. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to three adults who were displaced by the fire. The Nassau County Police Department's Homicide Squad and Arson/Bomb Squad, along with the Nassau County Fire Marshal, are investigating the cause of the fire.
