Fatal Head-On Crash Claims Life on Hawaii Island

A man has died following a severe head-on collision that occurred on Thursday evening along Highway 19 and Hikina Place on Hawaii island. Police reported that the incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. when a 2017 Ford 150 pickup truck, traveling south, veered across the centerline.
The Ford then collided head-on with a 2022 Chevy Silverado pickup truck. Emergency responders attempted to revive the driver of the Ford at the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly before 7:00 p.m. The female driver of the Chevy Silverado, a 46-year-old resident of Laupahoehoe, was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities indicate that speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors to the collision. The identity of the deceased man is being withheld pending formal identification and notification of his next of kin. This tragic event represents Hawaii island's second traffic fatality in the current year, with the previous year having recorded two such incidents by this time.
