A woman has tragically lost her life following a brutal alligator attack while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River. The incident occurred as the couple, identified as Brittany and her boyfriend Chance, were in shoulder-deep water.
The alligator reportedly initiated a "death roll" after grabbing Brittany. Her boyfriend, Chance, intervened, fighting the animal and managing to free her arm momentarily, but the alligator re-attacked, seizing her other arm.
Chance continued to battle the alligator, attempting to pull them both to shore. The predator eventually released its grip, and CPR was administered. Despite these efforts, Brittany succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital.
Wildlife authorities subsequently located and euthanized the alligator involved in the fatal attack, retaining its head for evidence. The Barr Street Trailhead, a popular local spot, has been closed indefinitely following the incident.
