A 65-year-old farmer from Khora village in Latehar district lost his life on Saturday evening after a severe bee attack in a field. Medical officials confirmed that the farmer, Sudeshwar Sao, sustained multiple bee stings, predominantly on his face, which led to a critical condition.
Upon arrival at the community health centre, Sao showed no pulse or heartbeat, had zero blood pressure, and exhibited signs of severe toxicity including mouth bleeding. Despite immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other revival measures, he could not be saved.
Doctors explained that Sao experienced severe allergic reactions and shock. They also emphasized that bee stings closer to the head, particularly on the face, pose a greater danger due to more potent toxic reactions.
Two individuals accompanying Sao reported being suddenly attacked while near a beehive. The Barwadeeh community health centre premises itself reportedly hosts over six beehives, posing a risk to staff and visitors.
Authorities have taken precautionary measures in some areas, like Chhipadohar railway station, by posting warnings about bees and advising against lighting fires that could agitate them. However, unlike snakebite fatalities, there is no provision for compensation for deaths resulting from bee stings, according to sources in the state disaster management department.
