In a significant move to enhance farmer welfare, the state cabinet has approved the extension of the Gopinath Munde accident relief scheme. This crucial safety net for farmers will now be operational until March 31, 2031, providing continued support against accidental harm.
The scheme's scope has been considerably widened, now encompassing eligible landless agricultural laborers and women farmers, who were previously excluded or had limited coverage. Furthermore, the benefit is no longer restricted to two family members but extends to all members within a farmer's household.
Accidents covered under the scheme have also been expanded to include internal bleeding and heat stroke, in addition to farming-related incidents and natural calamities like lightning and floods. This comprehensive approach ensures broader protection for the farming community. Financial assistance will be directly credited to beneficiaries' accounts, facilitated by an integrated online portal. A provision of Rs 200 crore has been allocated to ensure the scheme's effective implementation.
