A devastating incident occurred in Punganur town, Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of four family members. The tragedy unfolded on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when a motorbike, left running inside a closed house, led to fatal asphyxiation.
According to police reports, the bike's owner, Murali, had it serviced due to an engine issue. The mechanic advised keeping the engine on overnight. Murali, unfortunately, closed all doors and windows of his home, inadvertently trapping toxic exhaust fumes, primarily carbon monoxide, within the living space.
While Murali and his wife survived by sleeping on the terrace, his father Ramachandraiah (70), grandson Karthik (15), and twin granddaughters Charita and Chandana (both 8) succumbed to the fumes in their sleep. Their bodies were discovered on Sunday morning. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and police have registered a case for further investigation.
