Utah Canyons Turn Deadly: Family of 5 Lost to Flash Flood

Tragedy struck southern Utah when a family of five perished in a sudden flash flood while hiking in a scenic red rock canyon near Bicknell on Friday. The victims were Captain Spencer Long of the Provo Fire Department, his wife Katrina, and their sons Reid, Thayne, and Gage.
The family had arrived at Sunglow Campground for a day excursion when the flash flood, believed to be caused by heavy rains, swept through the area. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported that the bodies of the family members were recovered late Friday and into Saturday.
Captain Long and his wife Katrina were devoted parents whose children were their greatest joy. Katrina Long was also a co-founder of a medical spa. The couple's surviving daughter is now navigating the profound loss of her immediate family.
