The European Union has launched an intensified humanitarian aid effort for Venezuela, responding to the severe aftermath of two recent earthquakes. This new assistance package includes a substantial financial contribution of €5 million (equivalent to $5.7 million) dedicated to bolstering emergency relief in the most impacted regions.
In addition to monetary aid, the EU is coordinating the immediate transport of approximately 50 tonnes of vital supplies. These include essential materials for constructing shelters, equipment for water and sanitation systems, and educational resources. These items are being flown from Europe to Venezuela.
EU Crisis Commissioner Hadja Lahbib emphasized that this intervention would offer critical support to families who have been displaced, patients requiring medical attention, and children whose schools sustained damage. Rescue teams and medical personnel from various EU member states have already deployed to Venezuela in recent days to aid ongoing relief operations.
