Adele Lisa Tamati, 53, experienced a horrific accident in May 2022, shortly after moving into her new home. While attempting to use her ethanol fireplace for the first time, it exploded, engulfing her in flames. Despite trying to stop, drop, and roll, the accelerant covering her meant the flames persisted.
Her son's rapid actions, including directing her to jump into a swimming pool, saved her life. Tamati sustained third-degree burns on 33% of her body, affecting her face, neck, chest, torso, and right arm. She endured a five-week hospital stay, two skin graft surgeries, and intensive physical therapy.
Four years later, Tamati has come to terms with her disfigurement. She married her fiancé, Dion, and embraces her scars, wearing a sleeveless dress on her wedding day. While she still battles PTSD and receives laser treatments, she expresses immense gratitude for being alive and living a full life.
