A devastating incident off an Essex beach has resulted in the tragic deaths of three family members. A seven-year-old boy, Musa Ahmed from Romford, lost his life six days after getting into difficulty in the water at West Mersea on July 22. His cousin, 15-year-old Sameeha Rahman, and her mother, 41-year-old Shelina Rahman, both from Ilford, also died.
The three were on a family holiday when the tragedy unfolded. Emergency services were alerted to the situation near Seaview Avenue. Post-mortem examinations have provisionally identified drowning as the cause of death for all victims. For young Musa, a hypoxic ischaemic brain injury was also listed as a provisional cause.
The inquest into these profound losses has been adjourned until January 19, 2027. The senior coroner for Essex expressed the immense tragedy of three family members dying simultaneously, offering his deepest condolences to the bereaved.
