A software engineer's fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Malta has been ruled an accident. Kieran Hughes, 25, died on July 11, 2025, during a holiday with friends.
An inquest at Caernarfon Coroner's Court heard that Maltese authorities found a substantial alcohol level in his blood. Evidence suggested Hughes may not have realized he was falling, due to severe drunkenness.
No signs of third-party involvement or animosity were found. CCTV showed Hughes and his friend returning to their room, and the fall occurred about 48 minutes later.
Coroner Elizabeth Dudley-Jones described the death as a complete tragedy, offering condolences to Hughes' heartbroken family. The family expressed difficulties in dealing with Maltese authorities.
