6 Dec
Summary
- West Altadena sees first rebuilt home occupancy after the Eaton Fire.
- Homeowner John Dyson celebrates rebuilding his family home after 48 years.
- Certificates signify homes are safe and ready for residents to move back.

Los Angeles County marked a key recovery milestone in West Altadena, issuing the first certificate of occupancy for a fully rebuilt home since the Eaton Fire. This certificate signifies that the residence is safe and ready for its occupants.
John Dyson, who has lived on the property for 48 years, expressed pride in rebuilding his family home, a place he originally helped construct with his father. His new 1,470-square-foot home now features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a newly built Accessory Dwelling Unit.
This event follows the recent issuance of a similar certificate for another rebuilt home in Altadena earlier this week. County officials highlighted that such rebuilds are achievable, emphasizing home hardening and reassuring residents that recovery is possible without prohibitive costs.
