Leh, the capital of Ladakh, was shaken by a magnitude 3.5 earthquake early Monday morning, August 24, 2026. The tremor occurred at 8:25 AM Indian Standard Time at a depth of 120 km. This seismic event was not isolated, as Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district also registered a mild earthquake of magnitude 3.0 earlier that same morning, at 3:40 AM IST and a depth of 8 km.
Adding to the recent seismic activity, the Leh region experienced a more significant earthquake on Sunday, August 23, 2026. This earlier tremor measured 4.6 on the Richter scale and was recorded at 3:34 PM IST, originating from a depth of 150 km.
