E-Scooter Rider Hospitalized in B.C. Truck Collision
19 Jun
Summary
- E-scooter rider hospitalized after collision with semi-truck.
- RCMP warning of increased e-scooter incidents.
- Riders must be 16+, wear helmets, and obey traffic rules.

An e-scooter rider was transported to the hospital following a collision with a semi-truck in Prince George, British Columbia. The incident took place on Wednesday evening at approximately 8:30 p.m. PT, at the intersection of Highway 97 and 15th Avenue. The semi-truck driver was reportedly traveling south through the intersection and could not avoid hitting the e-scooter rider.
RCMP Corporal Jennifer Cooper stated that the truck driver remained at the scene, and no criminal activity is suspected. Police are investigating and seeking dashcam footage. This incident comes amid growing concerns from law enforcement about a rise in traffic incidents involving e-scooters.
Corporal Cooper noted a "cavalier attitude" among some e-scooter operators, leading to frequent reminders about traffic regulations. In Prince George, as in other B.C. pilot communities, e-scooters are permitted on city roads under specific conditions. Riders must be at least 16 years old, wear helmets, and not exceed 25 km/h. Parents can face tickets and fines for children violating these rules.
