E-bike Rider, 11, Sued Over Fatal SUV Crash
14 Mar
Summary
- An 11-year-old is being sued over an e-bike incident.
- A four-year-old boy was fatally struck by an SUV.
- The lawsuit blames the e-bike rider, SUV driver, and city.

A lawsuit filed by Ming Fang alleges that an e-bike rider's actions led to the death of his four-year-old son, Ayden Fang, on August 8, 2025. Ayden was fatally struck by an SUV driven by 19-year-old Mari Abey in Burlingame, California.
The incident began when the 11-year-old e-bike rider and his sister were involved in a collision with Abey's SUV in a parking lot. This initial crash allegedly caused Abey to accelerate, losing control and hitting Ayden, who was on the sidewalk.
The civil lawsuit accuses the e-bike rider of being too young for the vehicle and claims Abey was an inexperienced driver. The city of Burlingame is also named, with accusations of knowing about the parking lot's dangerous layout and insufficient pedestrian safety measures.
Fang stated he aims to expose broken regulations and improve community safety, particularly after criminal charges were declined against Abey by the district attorney's office due to insufficient evidence. The family described Ayden as a "bright, energetic little boy with a huge heart."
