Jaw Surgery Looms for E-Bike Crash Survivor
21 Jul
Summary
- Survivor faces jaw surgery to re-break and reset bones.
- Victim calls for greater e-bike safety and accountability.
- A separate e-bike crash led to a fatality in Orange County.

A 72-year-old Seal Beach resident, Stephanie Potter, is preparing for surgery to re-break and reset her jaw following a severe e-motorcycle collision that occurred earlier this year. Potter sustained multiple fractures, including her tibia, left hand, nose, and jaw, after being struck by a teenager riding an e-motorcycle.
Potter spent two weeks in intensive care and four weeks in rehabilitation. Four months post-crash, she continues her recovery, noting that her jaw requires further surgical intervention. She has become a vocal advocate for e-bike and e-motorcycle safety, particularly emphasizing the need for parental awareness and adherence to regulations.
This incident follows a tragic e-motorcycle collision in Lake Forest where 81-year-old Ed Ashman died from his injuries. The mother of the juvenile rider in that case faces an involuntary manslaughter charge, highlighting the severe consequences of irresponsible e-bike use and the increasing problem of unregulated electric two-wheelers.
Potter is scheduled to share her firsthand experience at an e-bike safety luncheon hosted by the Seal Beach Rotary Club on July 28, aiming to educate the public and underscore the lasting repercussions of poor decisions regarding e-bike operation.
