DWTS Alum Survives Deadly Air Canada Crash

A former Dancing With The Stars professional dancer, Charlotte Jorgensen, has shared her harrowing experience of surviving a recent Air Canada crash. The incident occurred last week as the flight was landing at New York City's La Guardia Airport. The Air Canada jet collided with a fire truck on the runway, resulting in the tragic deaths of Captain Antoine Forest, 24, and First Officer Mackenzie Gunther, 30. Jorgensen expressed profound gratitude, stating she owes her life to the pilots' bravery and ultimate sacrifice. The crash injured at least 41 people, though most have since been released from hospital. Investigations into the mid-air collision are ongoing, with initial reports suggesting an air traffic control error involving the fire truck responding to another aircraft. Aviation experts noted the potential for a far worse outcome had the impact involved the plane's fuel tanks. Jorgensen is now recovering at home, acknowledging the significant physical, mental, and emotional toll the event has taken.

The flight, Air Canada 8646, was en route from Montreal to La Guardia. Surveillance footage captured the violent impact, which significantly damaged the aircraft. The two pilots' bodies have been repatriated to Canada. The incident has brought renewed attention to staffing issues within air traffic control, a system facing long-standing concerns about controllers being overstretched. However, this particular crash was not linked to the ongoing government shutdown's impact on TSA staffing, which has caused significant delays at La Guardia and other airports.
