A major incident was narrowly avoided at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on Monday afternoon. An 18-year-old, identified as Avinash Prakash Kardile, was found lying on the tracks of Platform No. 1 around 3:20 PM.
Alerted by the presence of the individual, the motorman of a local train (Head No. 1169, V-36) blew his horn continuously before bringing the train to an emergency stop, just meters away from Kardile. Police personnel promptly arrived and removed the intoxicated youth from the tracks.
Kardile, who reportedly entered the track area to collect plastic bottles, had fallen asleep due to intoxication. He was taken into custody and a case was registered against him under Section 147 of the Railway Act. Despite the incident, the train experienced minimal delay.
