Tragedy struck San Bernardino County this past Saturday night when a suspected drunk driver collided with a group of cyclists. Approximately 30 riders were on Kingsley Street around 10:39 p.m. when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction struck several of them. The impact resulted in two fatalities, with one victim dying at the scene and another succumbing to their injuries at a hospital. Two additional cyclists sustained injuries; one remains in stable condition, while the fourth suffered a minor head laceration and declined further medical care.
The driver involved fled the scene immediately after the collision. However, witnesses provided crucial information that enabled Montclair police to locate the suspect at his nearby residence. Authorities have arrested Valentin Alberto Rodriguez, 38, on multiple charges including driving under the influence causing injury or death, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter. The victims were not identified by authorities, and the ride was noted as being self-organized and not city-sponsored.
