Cow Causes Tree-Top Rescue for Dog Walker
5 Feb
Summary
- Dog walker rescued from tree after escaping protective mother cow.
- Firefighters called to scene where cow waited at tree base.
- Cow owner coaxed animals away, allowing safe descent.

A dog walker was compelled to ascend a tree for more than an hour to evade a furious cow on the Isle of Wight. The incident occurred near Whitely Bank when the cow, displaying strong maternal instincts, charged at the man who was walking his dog on a public footpath close to her calf. Firefighters from two crews were dispatched to the location. Upon their arrival at 9:30 am on February 4, they discovered the agitated cow positioned at the base of the tree. The situation was resolved when the cow's owner arrived and successfully guided the mother and calf into another field. This allowed the walker to safely descend and be reunited with his dog. The fire service advised keeping a safe distance from livestock, especially those with calves, and to keep dogs on leads in such areas.
