A dramatic rescue unfolded on Ben Nevis last weekend when a dog named Tokyo collapsed on the trail. Her owner, Christina Bluhme, a dog trainer from Esher, Surrey, feared the worst as Tokyo lost the use of her legs and consciousness. The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team responded, carrying the 25kg Labrador down the 4,413ft (1,345m) peak to a local vet.
Vets believe Tokyo ingested cannabis left on the mountain. She remained unconscious for most of the descent but has since made a full recovery. Bluhme expressed immense gratitude to the rescue team and veterinary staff for their professionalism and compassion during the frightening experience. She urged fellow dog owners to be vigilant about discarded drugs and toxic substances found in natural environments.
