Dog Attack Tears Woman's Lip Off in Freak Incident
17 Dec
Summary
- A woman's lip was completely torn off by her dog Scout.
- She also sustained eight stitches to her forearm from the attack.
- The dog was euthanized due to protocol and safety concerns.

A marketing director from Indiana experienced a harrowing incident when her five-year-old Great Pyrenees, Scout, attacked her face on October 8. Scout bit off the entire left side of her upper lip and caused an injury requiring eight stitches on her forearm.
Despite Scout's typically gentle nature with children and visitors, the attack was sudden and severe. Another family dog, a Pitbull named Sadie, intervened, allowing the owner to escape and seek immediate medical attention at Ascension St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
As per state protocol, Scout was quarantined for two weeks and then euthanized. The couple opted for immediate euthanasia by a local vet to eliminate any future risk to their two young step-daughters, aged nine and 12. The owner is undergoing therapy to cope with the trauma and advocates for awareness that "even good dogs can have bad days."
