Dinwiddie Center Closure Looms After Asbestos Discovery

Dinwiddie County's Eastside Community Enhancement Center is slated for a temporary full closure due to the discovery of asbestos. The issue arose on June 17 when contractors performing scheduled floor renovations encountered materials of concern. Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of asbestos in an isolated area, prompting an immediate halt to the work.

While public access has been limited for renovations, the discovery led to the affected area being completely sealed off. The county has stated that there was no exposure to citizens or staff. Officials are currently in the process of identifying contractors to manage the asbestos remediation.

Although the center remains partially operational for program registration in an unaffected section, a complete shutdown is expected to commence with remediation activities. Any scheduled programs or events may be relocated to alternative sites. Dinwiddie County plans to provide updates on the progress and potential relocations via its website and other communication channels.
