A 49-year-old man has died after a skydive at Dunkeswell Aerodrome near Honiton, Devon. Police and emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Saturday afternoon following concerns for the skydiver's welfare. Despite their efforts, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the location, and his family has been notified. Investigations into the incident are currently underway, with scene guards remaining in place at the airfield.
This recent fatality brings back memories of a previous tragedy at the same aerodrome in June of the previous year. Belinda Taylor, 48, and her instructor Adam Harrison, 30, lost their lives during a tandem jump. Inquests into their deaths revealed they died from multiple injuries after their parachute failed to open as expected during their 15,000ft freefall.
Authorities, including police and the British Skydiving Board of Inquiry, launched investigations into the June incident. The coroner's findings indicated that the parachute malfunction was the direct cause of their deaths. The aerodrome and ambulance service have been contacted for comment on the latest skydive fatality.
