Devon Beach Undergoing Storm Shingle Restoration
21 Jan
Summary
- Storm Goretti displaced shingle onto Seaton Beach promenade and seawall.
- Council teams are working to return shingle to the beach.
- Completion is targeted for Saturday, weather permitting.

Work is underway to restore Seaton Beach in Devon after it was heavily impacted by Storm Goretti on January 8th. The storm surge caused a substantial volume of shingle to be moved from the beach onto the promenade and against the seawall. East Devon District Council has stated that the amount of displaced material exceeded the capacity of their local teams. The council is now undertaking the necessary work to return the shingle to its rightful place on the beach. The objective is to complete these restoration efforts by Saturday. However, the council acknowledges that further beach reprofiling might be necessary at a later date, depending on weather conditions and the potential impact of future storms.
