Navratri Puja Turns Tragic as Gas Leak Causes Blast, Destroys House

On September 23rd, 2025, a devastating LPG cylinder explosion occurred at a home in Gadiganur village near Hosapete, injuring eight members of a family. The incident took place as the family was preparing for Navratri puja, with the homeowner's wife, Kavita, turning on the gas lever. However, it is alleged that she lit the stove after a considerable delay, resulting in the explosion as the gas had been leaking.
The impact of the blast immediately destroyed half of the house, causing collapsed walls and rendering the structure uninhabitable. Among the injured are Kavita, 32, her husband Halappa, 42, his mother Gangamma, 63, brother Mailarappa, 48, and other family members Mallamma, 40, Kaveri, 18, Kavya, 15, and Nikhil, 13. Kavita's condition is reported to be critical, and she along with two other victims require plastic surgery.
District minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, who was present in Hosapete for the inauguration of the district court, visited the incident site and the injured at the hospital. He stated that the incident should not have occurred and that some of the victims, including a two-year-old child, have suffered severe injuries of up to 70%. The minister also mentioned that doctors from Bengaluru are being brought in to assist with the treatment of the injured.
