- Fourmile Creek overwhelmed by heavy rainfall.

Residents and patients in northeast Des Moines faced forced evacuations on Friday, July 3, due to rapidly rising floodwaters. The Des Moines Fire Department directed employees at Taylor House, a local hospice center, to relocate its five patients to Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines.
Approximately half a mile away, the Parkside East apartment complex also saw residents evacuated. Fire department officials reported that some elderly residents had to be rescued after missing initial evacuation warnings. However, other residents on higher floors opted to stay in their homes.
Heavy rainfall on Thursday night and Friday morning inundated Fourmile Creek, causing water to spill onto surrounding roads. Authorities responded by closing several key routes, including those at Hubbell Avenue, East Euclid Avenue, and East Douglas Avenue. A flood warning for the Fourmile Creek area remained in effect until Friday evening.
