Hero Deputies Revive Man on Highway

On December 13, 2025, Paulding County deputies responded to a crash on Highway 278 in Hiram, finding Tim Gayton unresponsive and without a pulse due to sudden cardiac arrest. Deputies Tanner Hambrick and Christopher Resko immediately began hands-only CPR, successfully maintaining blood flow to Gayton's brain and heart.

Working alongside EMS crews, further life-saving measures including defibrillation were administered until Gayton regained a pulse. He was transported to Wellstar Paulding Medical Center for emergency surgery and, remarkably, was discharged two days later to spend the holidays with his family.

Recently, on January 20, 2026, Gayton had a heartfelt reunion with the deputies and first responders who saved him at Wellstar Paulding Medical Center. The deputies and EMS responders were awarded the Lifesaver Award for their swift and effective actions during the critical rescue.
