Delhi Floods: Officials Inspect 139 Hotspots After Heavy Rains
29 Aug
Summary
- Delhi govt ordered an intensive inspection of 139 waterlogging hotspots.
- Inspections focus on drainage, siltation, and potential encroachments.
- Officials will report immediate and long-term solutions by Monday.

Severe waterlogging, traffic gridlock, and flight disruptions plagued Delhi-NCR on August 24 and 25 due to heavy rainfall. In response, the Delhi government has mandated an intensive inspection of 139 identified waterlogging hotspots within PWD areas. This directive aims to preemptively address potential further rainfall.
Officials are prioritizing an assessment of drainage systems, siltation, blockages, and potential encroachments contributing to accumulation. The Public Works Department's Principal Secretary and Special Secretary will lead inspections of critical roads. Chief Engineers will examine recurrent problem areas in their respective zones.
A comprehensive report, including immediate and long-term corrective measures, is to be submitted by Monday. PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh stressed the need for practical solutions and accountability, stating that every waterlogging point requires clear assessment and timely action. The inspections are being treated as urgent due to the possibility of continued heavy monsoon showers.
