Early morning rain on Thursday led to a red alert in parts of Delhi, with waterlogged streets causing significant traffic disruptions during the morning rush hour. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted cloudy skies and occasional showers for the Delhi-NCR region until August 8. While Delhi expects mild rainfall, Noida and Ghaziabad are under an orange alert for moderate rain and thunderstorms. Gurugram and Faridabad are on yellow alert for light rainfall.
Nationwide, the IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 19 states. Five eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh are on orange alert, and 20 western districts are on yellow alert, with Bihar expecting rain until August 8. Uttarakhand is on high alert, with classes suspended in affected districts due to anticipated heavy rains.
Beyond the northern plains, heavy rainfall has caused flash floods and overflowing rivers in parts of Jammu & Kashmir. In Gujarat's Navsari district, rainfall exceeding normal levels has led to substantial crop damage. Meanwhile, Kerala and Assam continue to grapple with severe flood crises, with thousands displaced and significant financial aid being provided to affected families in Kerala.
