4 Apr
Summary
- 65 of 90 illegal roadside structures demolished along Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
- Action targets unsafe conditions and illegal electricity connections.
- Nuh district is a focus area with ongoing regular inspections.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and district administration have actively demolished 65 out of 90 illegal structures situated along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. This decisive action aims to significantly enhance road safety by removing unauthorized roadside establishments that pose a hazard. Many of these structures were found operating without proper authorization and with illicit electricity connections.
Authorities have begun systematically disconnecting power supplies to these illegal setups, cutting wires and removing them to prevent their reuse. Stricter enforcement measures are planned, with warnings issued that any reappearing encroachments will face demolition and seizure of materials. The 60-km stretch in Nuh district has been identified as a particular focus area, where ongoing inspections are conducted to deter fresh encroachments.
Past accidents have been linked to vehicles parked near these illegal establishments, especially trucks halting along the expressways. Measures are being implemented to fine and tow illegally parked vehicles, with repeat offenders facing legal consequences. Joint drives involving traffic police and transport teams are anticipated to further monitor the expressway, urging the public to utilize designated facilities and avoid stopping along the route.
