- Fire broke out in a Malviya Nagar B&B cafe.

A tragic fire at the Flourish Stays B&B in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar has resulted in 23 fatalities, including Rahana Akhtar, a 38-year-old Bangladeshi national who succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, June 4, 2026. Akhtar had traveled from Dhaka with her husband, Mosharaf Hossain, for his kidney transplant, accompanied by her brother, Md Nurul Amin, who also perished in the incident.
The fire is believed to have started in a cafe on the first floor of the B&B, where Amin and the family were dining just before a planned hospital visit. While others managed to escape, Amin could not. This incident marks the 14th foreign national to die in the blaze, highlighting safety concerns at the establishment.
Investigations suggest the fire was triggered by a short circuit. The B&B owner, Lavkesh Bajaj, who acquired the property in 2022 and converted it into a facility catering to foreign patients, is under scrutiny for allegedly failing to implement adequate safety measures and exceeding permitted room capacity.
