A tragic house fire in DeKalb County has resulted in the deaths of four individuals. The blaze occurred late Wednesday, just before midnight, at a residence located at 1881 Winthrop Drive. Heavy smoke was observed billowing from the house as emergency services responded to the scene.
Interim Fire Chief Melvin Carter confirmed that the victims included one woman and three men, all members of the same family. Investigators have not yet released the names of the deceased, but family members indicated they were in their 50s and 70s. The emotional toll of such incidents is significant, with fire department peer support teams being utilized to assist firefighters mentally.
Three of the family members died while trapped inside the burning home. The fourth victim tragically passed away after being transported to the hospital. Other relatives arrived at the scene to console one another as the fire was extinguished.
