Dehradun district faced extensive damage and disruption due to heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Landslides and washed-away infrastructure impacted roads and water supply systems across various areas.
The Raipur area saw the Soda-Saroli road severely affected, with an electricity pole lost to the deluge. Traffic on Thano road was also disrupted by landslides, and the Maldevta causeway sustained damage, requiring a proposal for a new bridge.
In response to safety concerns, seven families from Gabbar Basti near the Rispana river were relocated. Additionally, 19 families in Deepnagar were shifted as a precautionary measure following damage to an auxiliary pathway.
Authorities directed efforts to restore two-lane traffic on the Mussoorie-Dehradun highway within 15 days, with retaining wall construction expected to take two months. By evening, 26 roads remained disrupted, including five state highways, though the national highway near Judo was reopened.
Water supply pipelines from Shahanshahi and Purkul water treatment plants sustained damage at multiple locations. A retaining wall collapse in Arya Nagar also impacted a 50-mm diameter pipeline, with temporary restoration underway.
Multiple retaining walls collapsed, and trees fell in Hathibarkala and other city areas. Severe waterlogging was reported in Salawala, Nehru Colony, Nehrugram, and the IT Park area, with dewatering pumps deployed in Salawala.
