Deadly Fire Kills 15 at Bosnian Retirement Home

A tragic fire that broke out at a retirement home in Tuzla, northern Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 4th has now claimed 15 lives, with the death toll continuing to rise. The blaze started in a ward that housed patients with dementia and limited mobility, and 11 people died instantly. In the days since, 4 more victims have passed away due to the severity of their injuries.

An autopsy has revealed that all the victims died from suffocation or carbon monoxide poisoning. In addition to the fatalities, more than 30 people were injured, including police officers and firefighters who responded to the emergency. Five patients remain hospitalized as of November 14th, 2025.

The fire has devastated the local community, and authorities are investigating the cause of the deadly incident. Retirement home safety and emergency preparedness will likely come under scrutiny in the wake of this tragic loss of life.
