Bus Plunges 100 Feet in Himalayan Tragedy

A devastating bus accident occurred on Monday, April 20, in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. The passenger bus, en route from Ramnagar to Udhampur, was carrying more than 60 people when it swerved to avoid an auto-rickshaw on a sharp bend. Subsequently, the bus plunged about 100 feet down a slope, leading to significant loss of life and injuries.

Authorities confirmed that 19 individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, with two additional passengers succumbing to their injuries after being taken to a hospital. Reports indicate varying numbers of injured individuals, ranging from 29 to 61, with several in critical condition at local health facilities. Those traveling in the auto-rickshaw were also among the injured. Residents in the vicinity provided immediate assistance to victims before emergency services arrived.

In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences and announced financial assistance. The Prime Minister's National Relief Fund will provide 200,000 rupees to the next of kin of each deceased and 50,000 rupees to those injured. The Prime Minister also prayed for the speedy recovery of all those who were hurt in the mishap.
