Cyclone Alert: Health Services on High Alert
25 Oct
Summary
- Emergency healthcare services must remain uninterrupted.
- Pregnant women in vulnerable areas will be moved.
- Adequate medicine and supply stocks are being ensured.

With a severe cyclonic storm imminent, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has mandated the maintenance of uninterrupted emergency healthcare services. Officials are preparing for red alerts issued for October 27 and 28. The directive emphasizes ensuring a continuous supply of medicines at government healthcare facilities, especially in low-lying areas.
Priority is placed on relocating pregnant women whose deliveries are anticipated between October 23 and November 6. More than 26,000 pregnant women in flood-prone regions or with health complications are slated for hospital admission. Health workers are also identifying vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those with chronic conditions, for specific attention.
District Medical and Health Officers are tasked with securing ample stocks of essential medicines, ORS, maternity supplies, and oxygen. Preparations also include ensuring generators, fuel, and safe drinking water. Vigilance against infectious diseases and maintaining sanitation in affected villages are also key concerns.
