Cyclone Murasu has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts landfall on the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur during the midnight of November 2 and early hours of November 3. Wind speeds are anticipated to be between 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph.
This storm follows closely after Cyclone Arnab, which caused widespread damage, including deaths and extensive destruction to infrastructure. The state is still recovering from Arnab's impact, with losses estimated at ₹4,600 crore. Authorities have placed a red alert for five districts in central and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, anticipating extremely heavy rainfall.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has canceled his visit to Delhi to oversee cyclone preparedness. Districts bordering Telangana are also on high alert for November 3, as the system is expected to move towards that state after landfall.
