Summary
- A grandmother suffered catastrophic injuries after being hit by a car.
- She sustained shattered pelvis and facial injuries requiring plastic surgery.
- The driver received a suspended sentence and a two-year driving ban.

In October 2024, a grandmother's life was irrevocably changed when she was struck by a car traveling at 55mph in Lincolnshire. The incident occurred on Manby Road when Jon Dick, a driving instructor, collided with the cyclist, Rebecca Tanton. Shocking dashcam footage captured the moment of impact, showing Ms. Tanton being thrown from her bicycle.
Ms. Tanton sustained catastrophic injuries, including a shattered pelvis and facial fractures necessitating emergency plastic surgery. Her recovery in the ICU involved multiple surgeries and the insertion of seven metal plates. This led to a severe sepsis infection, further complications, and the accidental tearing of her bladder.
Adding to her trauma, Ms. Tanton had to arrange the funeral for her 33-year-old son, a marine pilot who passed away from brain cancer. The funeral was postponed until she was stable enough to attend. Before the crash, she was a highly active individual, cycling 40 miles daily and enjoying horse-riding and swimming.
In December 2025, Jon Dick was convicted of causing serious injury by careless driving. He was handed a suspended prison sentence and a two-year driving ban. Ms. Tanton, who states Mr. Dick has shown no remorse, continues to live with chronic pain and faces a one-in-three chance of her sepsis returning.
