20 Feb
Summary
- A two-alarm fire destroyed the Curve Inn on Feb. 20.
- Strong winds and heavy smoke challenged firefighters at the scene.
- The owner expressed deep concern for her long-term staff's future.

A fierce two-alarm fire ravaged the historic Curve Inn in Southern View on February 20th, shortly after 9 a.m. Fire crews encountered heavy flames and smoke upon arrival, with a portion of the roof collapsing into the beer garden and fire spreading to the main building.
Extreme wind gusts significantly hampered the firefighting operations, although the lack of nearby structures limited the fire's spread. Extensive smoke damage affected both the first and second floors of the two-story establishment, which has stood since 1932.
The owner, Ami Merchant, was present with two cooks and a maintenance worker when the fire broke out in the beer garden. She emphasized her immediate concern for her long-serving staff, some of whom have been with her for 20 years, and their ability to cope with the loss.
Firefighters took approximately 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control, with about 30 personnel on scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though heaters and grills in the beer garden are being considered. No estimate of the structural damage has been released.
