A devastating incident occurred in Maheshwaram on Sunday evening, resulting in the tragic drowning of two young cousins, Rishi, aged 6, and Bhadrinath, aged 8. The boys, who were residents of KC Tanda, had left their homes to play but never returned. Their absence triggered immediate concern among family members who initiated a search before alerting the authorities.
Preliminary inquiries and local accounts indicated the children were last seen near the Maheshwara statue beside Kotwal Cheruvu. A large-scale search operation commenced immediately, involving villagers, expert swimmers, fire department personnel, and police. Despite extensive efforts using floodlights throughout Sunday night, the children could not be found. The search resumed on Monday morning, tragically leading to the recovery of both bodies from the lake.
Maheshwaram inspector H Venkateshwarulu confirmed the recovery of the bodies. Following the postmortem examination, the bodies were released to the families. Based on the complaints lodged by the families, the police have registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
