An elderly couple was electrocuted to death in Jheelo village on Friday evening following a severe surge of high-voltage electricity. The incident reportedly began around 6 pm when an 11,000-volt line carried excessive current, causing wiring and electrical boards in multiple homes to ignite.
The 63-year-old woman, Phulmati, died instantly upon contact with the energized wiring as she opened her door. Her husband, 65-year-old Shriram, was also electrocuted and died while attempting to rescue her.
Another resident, 60-year-old Indra Devi, suffered burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Following the fatalities, villagers alerted the electricity department, which subsequently shut down the main power line to prevent further incidents. Police have initiated an investigation and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
