Businessman Daniel Case, 45, experienced a terrifying encounter at his remote Cornish cottage when he was bitten by an adder, the UK's only native venomous snake. The incident occurred in late June when Case felt a searing pain, only to discover a substantial adder attached to his foot. The snake, approximately 3ft in length, was later found in his living room.
Following the bite, Case was immediately transported to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where he received antivenom and pain medication. However, he subsequently suffered a seizure and later experienced heart palpitations and chest pains, necessitating further hospital visits and treatment with antibiotics.
Despite initial recovery, Case continues to battle pain and swelling in his foot and leg. The experience has left him extremely anxious, constantly scanning his surroundings for any sign of snakes, even within his home. The adder itself was safely removed from the property by wildlife services.
