2 Nov
Summary
- San Juan River forecast to reach record high, surpassing 1911 flood.
- Mandatory evacuations ordered for low-lying areas along multiple rivers.
- Major roads closed across counties, town restricts all incoming traffic.

Rivers in southwest Colorado are experiencing significant swelling, leading to widespread road closures in Archuleta and La Plata counties. Updated forecasts indicate the San Juan River is projected to reach a record high by Sunday evening, potentially exceeding the historic 1911 flood levels.
Mandatory evacuation orders remain in place for individuals residing in low-lying areas adjacent to the San Juan, Rio Blanco, Navajo, and Piedra Rivers. The Archuleta County Sheriff's Office warned that the river is rising faster than anticipated and could crest higher than previously forecast.
In response to dangerous flood conditions and debris flows, La Plata County has temporarily shut down all county roads. The town of Pagosa Springs has also imposed restrictions on incoming traffic, setting up numerous traffic control points on key highways and local roads. Additionally, a public health notice has been issued due to sewage discharge into the San Juan River, advising residents to avoid contact with downstream water.
